Take the medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use the medication in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the instructions on your prescription label.
Take Keflex with a full glass of water.
Dissolve the Keflex dispersible tablet in a small amount of water, about 2 teaspoonfuls. Stir this mixture and drink all of it right away. To make sure you get the entire dose, add a little more water to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away. Do not swallow or chew a dispersible tablet.
Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. Take Keflex for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Keflex will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

Common Side Effects of Keflex

In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common Keflex side effects occurring in either adults or children included:
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Upset stomach (dyspepsia)
- Nausea
- Confusion

Some of these possible side effects include but are not limited to:
- Hallucinations
- Fatigue
- Joint pain
- Bloody diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Anemia
- Low platelets in the blood (thrombocytopenia)

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug. Also let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of Keflex, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
